A Liberty County resident, Jason Reeves, has been indicted by a federal grand jury in the Eastern District of Texas on charges of possession of a firearm by a prohibited person. The announcement was made by U.S. Attorney Jay R. Combs.
According to the indictment, Reeves, 51, was found in possession of a firearm on November 21, 2025, despite being legally barred from doing so due to his status as a convicted felon. Federal law prohibits individuals with felony convictions from owning or possessing firearms.
If convicted, Reeves could face up to 15 years in federal prison.
The case is part of Operation Take Back America, an initiative led by the Department of Justice that aims to address illegal immigration, dismantle cartels and transnational criminal organizations, and protect communities from violent crime.
The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the Liberty County Sheriff’s Office are investigating the case. Assistant U.S. Attorney Reynaldo P. Morin is prosecuting it.
“A federal indictment is not evidence of guilt. All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law,” according to the statement.
