Pike County man sentenced to over 17 years for producing child pornography

A man from Raccoon, Kentucky, has been sentenced to 210 months in federal prison for producing child pornography. Lonnie James Maynard, 54, received the sentence from Chief U.S. District Judge David Bunning.

According to court documents, on January 17, 2025, Maynard used Snapchat to direct a minor to send him sexually explicit photos and videos. A search of his phone uncovered these communications and evidence of the production of child pornography.

Maynard will be required by federal law to serve at least 85 percent of his sentence before becoming eligible for release. After completing his prison term, he will be supervised by the U.S. Probation Office for ten years.

The sentencing was announced jointly by Paul McCaffrey, Acting United States Attorney for the Eastern District of Kentucky; Olivia Olson, Special Agent in Charge at the FBI Louisville Field Office; and Phillip J. Burnett, Jr., Commissioner of the Kentucky State Police.

The case was investigated by the FBI and Kentucky State Police. Assistant U.S. Attorney Justin Blankenship prosecuted the case.

"This case is part of Project Safe Childhood," according to information provided by the U.S. Attorney’s Office. "Project Safe Childhood is a nationwide initiative launched in 2006 by the Department of Justice to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse." The initiative brings together federal, state, and local resources to locate and prosecute individuals who exploit children online and to identify victims.
