Holstein Manufacturing, a company based in Holstein, Iowa, has been named Small Business of the Week by Senate Small Business and Entrepreneurship Committee Chair Joni Ernst. The recognition highlights the company's growth from its beginnings in 1976 to its current operations under Darrin Schmidt.
Chair Ernst stated, “Holstein Manufacturing has grilled the competition with its craftsmanship and always meatsthe community where they are needed. Today, under Darrin Schmidt’s leadership, the company continues to roast the standard for what local businesses can achieve, all while cooking up solutions for customers across the country and around the world.”
The business was founded by Bruce Schmidt on a family farm outside Holstein. What started as a homemade hog cooker for a fundraiser evolved into manufacturing grills, chicken and rib cookers, deep fat fryers, corn roasters, stock trailers, animal feeding equipment, and other products. Durability and customer needs remain central to their product design.
Despite reaching international markets, Holstein Manufacturing maintains strong ties to its hometown. The company supports organizations such as 4-H and Future Farmers of America and participates in local economic development initiatives through groups like Ida County Economic Development and the Holstein Chamber of Commerce.
Chair Ernst plans to continue highlighting notable small businesses in Iowa with her weekly award.
