Senate Aging Committee schedules hearing on economic contributions of older Americans

On December 10, 2025, the U.S. Senate Special Committee on Aging will hold a hearing to discuss the positive impact that older Americans have on the country's economy. The session is titled “Aging with Purpose: The Positive Impact of Older Americans on Today’s Economy.” It will be led by Committee Chairman Rick Scott and Ranking Member Kirsten Gillibrand.

The hearing aims to highlight how older adults contribute through employment, caregiving, volunteering, education, and other activities as they transition into retirement. Expert witnesses are scheduled to discuss how aging Americans strengthen both local communities and the broader economy. They will also consider strategies for better supporting and utilizing the skills and experiences of this population.

Witnesses at the hearing include Jon Taffer, President and CEO of Taffer Dynamics and executive producer/host of "Bar Rescue" from Paramount Network in Las Vegas; Dr. Paul Broadie II, President of Santa Fe College in Gainesville; Rachel Greszler, Senior Research Fellow in Workforce and Public Finance at The Heritage Foundation in Washington D.C.; and Christine Osasu, Director of the Senior Community Service Employment Program at Legacy Link in Oakwood.

The event will take place at 3:00 p.m. ET in room SH-216 of the Hart Senate Office Building. A live stream will be available online.

"The hearing will highlight the vital contributions that older adults make to the United States economy through work, caregiving, volunteering, education and more as they embrace retirement and begin a new chapter in their lives driven by purpose," according to organizers. "Expert witnesses will discuss how aging Americans are strengthening both local communities and the overall economy while exploring strategies to better support and leverage their skills and experience."
