A Rockford man has been sentenced to more than five years in federal prison for robbing a Chase Bank in the city. Bernard Wandick, 33, previously pleaded guilty to the robbery of the bank located at 3699 N. Main St.

According to court records, Wandick entered the bank on July 17, 2019, wearing a medical mask and carrying a firearm. He pointed the weapon at several employees and demanded money from tellers before fleeing on foot with cash.

On Tuesday, U.S. District Judge Iain D. Johnston sentenced Wandick to 63 months in prison during a hearing held in Rockford federal court.

The announcement was made by Andrew S. Boutros, United States Attorney for the Northern District of Illinois, and Douglas S. DePodesta, Special Agent-in-Charge of the Chicago Field Office of the FBI. The Rockford Police Department assisted with the investigation. Assistant U.S. Attorneys Theodora Anderson and Jessica Maveus represented the government.
