During Operation Metro Surge in Minnesota, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has arrested over 400 individuals described as illegal aliens with criminal backgrounds, including those convicted of sexual offenses and violent crimes. The operation was conducted in response to what ICE describes as sanctuary policies in Minnesota.
Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin stated, "ICE law enforcement officers have arrested more than 400 illegal aliens including pedophiles, rapists, and violent thugs since Operation Metro Surge began. Tim Walz and Jacob Frey failed to protect the people of Minnesota. They let these monsters and child predators roam free. Thanks to our brave law enforcement, Minnesota is safer with these thugs off their streets. Instead of thanking our law enforcement for removing criminals from their communities, Tim Walz and Jacob Frey continue to demonize our brave law enforcement."
Among those arrested are individuals with convictions for crimes such as third-degree criminal sexual conduct using force or coercion, rape, robbery, assault with a dangerous weapon, solicitation of minors for prostitution, and other serious offenses. Many of those apprehended had final orders of removal dating back several years.
Operation Metro Surge is part of ICE's ongoing efforts to target individuals considered threats to public safety who remain in the country despite deportation orders.
