Taylor Molic Morris, a 23-year-old Columbia resident, has been sentenced to 46 months in federal prison for being a felon in possession of ammunition. The sentence follows her conviction by a jury on June 6, 2025.
According to evidence presented at trial and sentencing, Morris was involved in a shooting at a night club on Broad River Road in Columbia on June 11, 2023. During the incident, she had a loaded firearm that she had purchased about three weeks earlier. The evidence showed that Morris fired the gun four times, leaving behind four shell casings at the scene before fleeing. Investigators later determined all four casings were from the same weapon.
The Midlands Gang Task Force had previously identified Morris as a validated gang member. At the time of the shooting, she was on probation for prior convictions of strong arm robbery and bank fraud. These convictions made it illegal for her to possess firearms or ammunition under federal law.
United States District Judge Joseph F. Anderson Jr. imposed the sentence of more than three years imprisonment, followed by three years of court-ordered supervision. There is no parole in the federal system.
The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the Richland County Sheriff’s Department investigated the case. Assistant U.S. Attorneys Lamar Fyall and Ariyana Gore prosecuted.
