Town Food Service Equipment Co., Inc., based in Brooklyn, New York, has announced a recall of certain aluminum saucepans due to the risk of lead contamination. The recall affects saucepans that may contain leachable lead, which could enter food during use.
According to the company, "Lead is toxic to humans and can affect people of any age or health status, and there is no known safe level of exposure to lead. Even low levels of lead exposure can cause serious health problems, particularly in children and fetuses. Consuming food with elevated lead levels can contribute to elevated levels of lead in the blood. Children and babies are more susceptible to lead toxicity due to their smaller body size, metabolism, and rapid growth. At low levels, children may not have obvious symptoms but can still experience trouble learning, low IQ, and behavior changes. At higher levels of lead exposure, people may experience fatigue, headache, stomach pain, vomiting, or neurologic changes."
The recalled products were distributed across several U.S. states including Alabama, California, Florida, Illinois, Michigan, Texas, Washington and others as well as Puerto Rico and Quebec City in Canada through authorized dealers between January 1, 2023 and November 30, 2025.
The affected saucepans come in four sizes ranging from 1 quart to 3 quarts. They feature indented graduations on the interior and a plated steel handle riveted to the body. The products or their packaging may be marked with item numbers 35400 (1 Quart), 35401 (1-1/2 Quart), 35402 (2 Quart), or 35403 (3 Quart) along with corresponding SKU numbers.
No illnesses related to this issue have been reported so far.
The recall follows a sampling program conducted by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) that identified leachable lead in finished saucepan products. Town Food Service Equipment Co., Inc. has stopped production and distribution while working with the FDA on further investigation.
Consumers who purchased these saucepans are advised to return them for a full refund at the place of purchase.
