U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) has posted several updates on its official X account regarding immigration enforcement under the Trump administration, the federal government's priorities, and voluntary departure options for individuals in the country illegally.
On December 13, 2025, CBP stated, "Under the Trump administration, CBP is protecting unaccompanied minors found at the border."
Later that same day, CBP posted another message emphasizing government priorities: "The entire federal government is focused on one thing, putting Americans first."
On December 14, 2025, CBP addressed individuals residing in the United States without legal status. The agency wrote: "The CBP Home app is your chance to leave voluntarily if you’re in the country illegally. Use it now—or you will be found and deported with zero chance of returning. CBP is responsible for enforcing U.S. immigration laws at and between ports of entry. Under both current and previous administrations, including Donald Trump's presidency from 2017 to 2021, there have been shifts in policies affecting border security and immigration enforcement actions.
The reference to "putting Americans first" aligns with longstanding themes from Trump-era policy initiatives that prioritized domestic concerns over other considerations.
The mention of voluntary departure through a dedicated app reflects ongoing efforts by immigration authorities to encourage self-removal among those present unlawfully before initiating formal removal proceedings or imposing additional penalties.
