The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS) is beginning the final phase of its 2025 Agricultural Resource Management Survey (ARMS). The survey, which starts in late December and will continue for several months, aims to collect information about farm economics from farmers and ranchers across the country.

According to Lance Honig, Chair of the Agricultural Statistics Board, “The data will help inform decisions on local and federal policies and programs that affect farms and farm families.”

Nearly 40,000 producers nationwide are expected to participate in this phase of ARMS. The current version of the questionnaire focuses on costs of production and expenditures specifically for cotton, hogs, and broiler producers.

Honig stated, “In February, our interviewers will begin reaching out to those farmers who have not yet responded. We appreciate their time and are here to help them with the questionnaire so that their information will continue to support sound agricultural decision-making.”

NASS emphasizes that all information provided by respondents is confidential under federal law. Only aggregate data is published to ensure individual operations cannot be identified.

Results from the expense data collected through ARMS will be published in the annual Farm Production Expenditures report on July 24, 2026. Reports can be accessed at nass.usda.gov/publication. Additional analysis and reports related to ARMS are available at ers.usda.gov/arms.
