Kenner resident sentenced to prison for distributing fentanyl

A Kenner woman has been sentenced to nearly four years in prison for distributing fentanyl in the Eastern District of Louisiana. Shawna Martin, 56, received a sentence of 46 months imprisonment, followed by four years of supervised release and a $300 mandatory special assessment fee after pleading guilty to charges related to fentanyl distribution.

Court documents indicate that in late 2023, the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) began investigating Martin after receiving information about her involvement in drug distribution. The investigation revealed that Martin distributed more than 40 grams of fentanyl pills within the district. On August 24 and September 6, 2023, she sold a total of nearly 98 grams of fentanyl to an individual she believed was a legitimate buyer. Later, on September 20, 2023, Martin was found in possession of over 114 grams of fentanyl with intent to distribute.

The DEA led the investigation into Martin's activities. Assistant U.S. Attorney Lynn E. Schiffman from the Narcotics Unit prosecuted the case.
