Boss Dairy Farms has announced a voluntary recall of one retail lot of Charlevoix Cheese Company 8oz Mild Cheddar Cheese due to the possible presence of Listeria monocytogenes. This bacterium can cause serious health issues, particularly in young children, elderly individuals, and those with weakened immune systems. In healthy people, symptoms may include fever, headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain, and diarrhea. Listeria infection can also result in miscarriages or stillbirths.

The affected cheese was distributed only in Michigan through retail stores. The recalled product is an 8oz block under the Charlevoix Cheese Company brand name, packaged in clear plastic with UPC 850056642057. It carries lot number 13220025 and a best by date of October 20, 2026.

No illnesses have been reported so far related to this recall. The company identified the potential contamination during routine testing that detected Listeria monocytogenes in an 8oz block of mild cheddar.

Consumers who have purchased the recalled cheese are advised to destroy it or return it to the store for a full refund.

"Charlevoix Cheese Company is committed to producing the highest quality products and our top priority is the safety of our consumers. For this reason, we are initiating this voluntary recall of the product." Consumers with questions can contact the company at (231) 675-9902.
