U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers at the Del Rio Port of Entry have seized two weapons, nine magazines, and 1,389 rounds of ammunition during outbound operations. The incident occurred on December 21 when officers at the Del Rio International Bridge inspected a 2016 Chevrolet passenger van heading to Mexico.

The vehicle and its utility trailer were referred for a nonintrusive inspection system scan and canine examination. Upon further physical inspection, officers found the weapons, magazines, ammunition, and a gun sight hidden among commodities inside the vehicle.

All items were seized by CBP’s Office of Field Operations officers. Homeland Security Investigations special agents have started a criminal investigation into the case.

Port Director Liliana Flores commented on the seizure: "Every weapon and round of ammunition seized represents a potential threat neutralized. As this seizure illustrates, we will continue to leverage every resource to deter and disrupt illegal activities that threaten public safety."

CBP describes itself as America's largest law enforcement organization with over 67,000 personnel responsible for border management across land, air, and sea. The agency states it is committed to enforcing safe travel and trade while protecting national security through innovation and collaboration.
