Silvestri Sweets expands recall of holiday barks over undeclared allergens

ORGANIZATIONS IN THIS STORY

Silvestri Sweets Inc., based in Geneva, Illinois, has expanded its voluntary recall of 5-ounce bags of Choceur branded Holiday Barks due to the risk of undeclared allergens. The affected products include the Cookie Butter Holiday Bark, which may contain pecans not listed on the label, and the Pecan, Cranberry & Cinnamon Holiday Bark, which may contain undeclared wheat.

The company stated that individuals with allergies to pecans or wheat could face serious or life-threatening reactions if they consume these products. The recalled items were distributed nationwide through Aldi grocery stores.

The expanded recall now covers additional lot numbers and “best by” dates beyond those included in the original announcement. Specifically, Cookie Butter Holiday Bark with lot numbers 28525 (Best By 05/2026), 29925 (Best By 05/2026), and 30625 (Best By 06/2026) are included. For Pecan, Cranberry & Cinnamon Holiday Bark, affected lot numbers are 28525 (Best By 08/2026), 29925 (Best By 08/2026), and 30625 (Best By 09/2026).

According to Silvestri Sweets, "No illnesses have been reported to date in connection with this problem."

The recall was expanded after it was found that some Pecan, Cranberry & Cinnamon Holiday Bark had been packaged in Cookie Butter Holiday Bark bags, leading to undeclared pecan exposure. The company indicated that a temporary breakdown in production and packaging processes might have caused the issue.

Consumers who purchased these products are advised to discard them. Those seeking more information can contact Silvestri Sweets at 1-630-232-2500 during business hours or via email at customerservice@carousel-candies.com.
