Willy Pete’s Chocolate Company LLC, based in Harwinton, has announced a recall of its Almond Despair chocolate bars after it was found that almonds were not declared in the ingredient statement. The Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection Food and Standards Division (DCP) issued a warning about the recall.
The product label incorrectly listed macadamia nuts instead of almonds as an ingredient. According to the DCP, "Customers who have allergies or severe sensitivities to almonds run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reactions if they consume these products."
The recalled Almond Despair chocolate bars are packaged in purple wrappers, weigh 2 oz, and carry UPC 0 987261 5. These bars were distributed to retail locations in Connecticut, Massachusetts, and South Carolina at the following stores: Curioporium in Southington, CT; Puckerbutt Pepper Co. in Fort Mill, SC; and Army Barracks in Saugus, MA.
No illnesses have been reported so far. Consumers who purchased these chocolate bars are advised to return them to the place of purchase for a full refund.
