Douglas Troutman confirmed as assistant administrator for EPA's chemical safety office

The United States Senate has confirmed Douglas Troutman as the Assistant Administrator for the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) Office of Chemical Safety and Pollution Prevention (OCSPP). Appointed by President Donald J. Trump, Troutman will manage the office responsible for ensuring the safe use of pesticides and chemicals.

EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin expressed confidence in Troutman's ability to lead, stating, "Doug Troutman’s experience uniquely positions him to lead EPA’s Office of Chemical Safety and Pollution Prevention." Zeldin highlighted Troutman's understanding of both the laws governing chemicals and the companies that produce them.

Troutman shared his enthusiasm for his new role, saying, "I’m deeply honored and it is a privilege to serve as Assistant Administrator of the Office of Chemical Safety and Pollution Prevention." He emphasized his commitment to working with stakeholders to ensure environmental safety while promoting innovation and economic growth.

Senator Shelley Moore Capito (R-WV), Chairman of the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee, praised Troutman's leadership background at the American Cleaning Institute. She remarked on his readiness for this position due to his extensive legal and regulatory experience.

Tony Lyons, President of MAHA Action, also welcomed Troutman's confirmation. He noted that Troutman brings valuable experience and a practical mindset to the role.

Before joining the EPA, Troutman was Co-CEO at the American Cleaning Institute, where he focused on ingredient communication and chemical management among other responsibilities. His career includes senior roles at Underwriters Laboratories and the National Electrical Manufacturers Association. Additionally, he served on U.S. Senator Arlen Specter's legislative staff from 1992 to 1996. Troutman holds a J.D. from Villanova University School of Law and a B.A. in International Affairs from The George Washington University.
