Beaver Falls man indicted for illegal firearm possession following prior felony

A federal grand jury in Pittsburgh has indicted Jayvon Turner, a 23-year-old resident of Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania, for unlawfully possessing a firearm and ammunition after being convicted of a felony. The announcement was made by First Assistant United States Attorney Troy Rivetti.

According to the indictment, Turner allegedly possessed the firearm and ammunition on or about August 16, 2025. Federal law prohibits individuals with prior felony convictions from possessing firearms or ammunition. Turner’s previous conviction was related to a state robbery charge.

If convicted, Turner could face up to 15 years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000. The actual sentence would be determined according to federal sentencing guidelines that consider the severity of the offense and Turner's criminal history.

Assistant United States Attorney V. Joseph Sonson is prosecuting the case. The investigation leading to the indictment was conducted by the Pittsburgh Bureau of Police and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.

This prosecution falls under Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), an initiative aimed at reducing violent crime and gun violence through collaboration among law enforcement agencies and community organizations. The Department launched an updated violent crime reduction strategy for PSN on May 26, 2021. This strategy focuses on building trust within communities, supporting prevention efforts by local organizations, setting targeted enforcement priorities, and evaluating outcomes.

First Assistant United States Attorney Troy Rivetti stated: "An indictment is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty."
