Moolenaar says removing Chinese ally Maduro improves global safety

Chairman John Moolenaar of the House Select Committee on the Chinese Communist Party commented on the recent arrest of Venezuelan cartel leader Nicolas Maduro, highlighting concerns about China's role in the Western Hemisphere.

Moolenaar stated, "The Trump Administration’s decisive action against Nicolas Maduro removes a Chinese ally from power and makes the world a safer place. China’s partnership with Maduro propped up an authoritarian ruler who worked with our nation’s adversaries and hurt the American people. China is actively working against us in Central and South America and those who choose to work with Xi Jinping should note that he could not save Maduro from defeat. The Select Committee will continue to investigate how China is trying to threaten America’s national security interests in the Western Hemisphere, and we will work within Congress and alongside the Trump Administration and our allies to prevent it."

Moolenaar's remarks reflect ongoing scrutiny by U.S. lawmakers regarding China's influence in Latin America, especially its support for leaders like Maduro. The Select Committee has indicated it will maintain its focus on investigating potential threats posed by China's actions in this region.
