Congressman Brett Guthrie, Chairman of the House Committee on Energy and Commerce, and Congressman Gus Bilirakis, Chairman of the Subcommittee on Commerce, Manufacturing, and Trade, have announced an upcoming hearing focused on motor vehicle safety and U.S. automotive leadership.
The hearing is titled "Examining Legislative Options to Strengthen Motor Vehicle Safety, Ensure Consumer Choice and Affordability, and Cement U.S. Automotive Leadership." It will take place on Tuesday, January 13, 2026 at 2:00 PM ET in Room 2175 of the Rayburn House Office Building. The event will be open to both the public and press, with a livestream available online at energycommerce.house.gov.
Chairmen Guthrie and Bilirakis stated: “Since the Model T was first produced in 1908, the American automotive industry has been the driving force for creating jobs and improving the comfort and quality of the vehicles on our roads. Though the times and technologies have changed, our desire for innovation, safety, and consumer choice have not. We look forward to discussing these bills to strengthen motor vehicle safety with our colleagues and continuing to advance American automotive leadership.”
The hearing will review several proposed bills aimed at updating regulations related to vehicle safety standards as well as promoting affordability for consumers. Among those listed are:
