Select Committee Chairman John Moolenaar (R-MI) issued a statement regarding Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi (D-IL) stepping down as ranking member of the House Select Committee on the Chinese Communist Party. Krishnamoorthi will be succeeded by Congressman Ro Khanna (D-CA).
Moolenaar expressed appreciation for Krishnamoorthi’s work, stating, "I am tremendously grateful for Ranking Member Krishnamoorthi’s bipartisan leadership on the Select Committee. He has been a tireless and principled advocate on behalf of freedom and democracy and a steadfast voice in standing up to the authoritarian ambitions of the Chinese Communist Party. I value his friendship and the work we have done together to protect our country and the American people."
He also welcomed Khanna's appointment: “I congratulate Congressman Khanna on his appointment as the incoming ranking member and I look forward to meeting with him to discuss the committee’s work in 2026.”
The transition marks a change in Democratic leadership within the committee that focuses on issues related to U.S.-China relations.
