York County man sentenced to six years for distributing child pornography

A York County man has been sentenced to six years in federal prison for distributing child pornography. The United States Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Pennsylvania announced that Michael Carbaugh, 39, received a 72-month sentence from United States District Judge Keli M. Neary.

According to United States Attorney Brian D. Miller, Carbaugh admitted to distributing more than 1,800 images of child pornography between October 1 and November 7, 2023. Law enforcement traced devices sharing illegal material on the BitTorrent network during this period back to Carbaugh. The devices were using a Comcast IP address registered in his name.

The investigation was conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Assistant United States Attorney Michael Scalera prosecuted the case.

This prosecution is part of Project Safe Childhood, an initiative started by the Department of Justice in May 2006 to address child sexual exploitation and abuse. The program brings together federal, state, and local resources to find and prosecute those who exploit children and to help victims.
