Subcommittee schedules hearing on Coast Guard law enforcement missions

The Coast Guard and Maritime Transportation Subcommittee will hold a hearing to review the Coast Guard’s law enforcement activities. Chairman Mike Ezell (R-MS) announced that the session is scheduled for 10:00 a.m. ET on Tuesday, January 13, 2025, at the Rayburn House Office Building in Washington, D.C.

The hearing will focus on how the Coast Guard addresses illegal drug and migrant entry along maritime borders and its efforts to prevent illegal, unreported, and unregulated fishing. Members of the subcommittee are set to hear testimony from Rear Admiral David C. Barata, Deputy for Operations Policy and Capabilities at the United States Coast Guard, and Heather MacLeod, Director of Justice and Homeland Security Programs at the United States Government Accountability Office.

Chairman Ezell stated that additional details about the hearing titled “Drugs, Thugs, and Fish: Examining Coast Guard Law Enforcement Effort,” including witness statements and a live webcast link, will be provided as they become available.
