Whole Milk for Healthy Kids Act signed into law with bipartisan support

U.S. Senate Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition, and Forestry Chairman John Boozman (R-AR) issued a statement after President Trump signed the Whole Milk for Healthy Kids Act into law. The legislation brings whole and reduced-fat milk options back to school lunch programs, joining existing low-fat and fat-free choices.

“Today is a milestone for the health and well-being of children nationwide. The Whole Milk for Healthy Kids Act ensures whole and reduced-fat milk choices return to school lunch programs alongside low-fat and fat-free options.

I am proud to have worked with my colleagues on both sides of the aisle to advance this legislation through the Senate and into law. By restoring these healthy, nutritious milk beverages to school cafeterias, we are helping fuel young people’s success in the classroom and supporting America’s outstanding dairy producers.”

The bill was passed by the Senate on November 21, 2025, following unanimous approval from the committee earlier in the year.

The Senate Agriculture, Nutrition, and Forestry Committee has been responsible for agricultural policy since its creation in 1825. It operates as part of the standing committee structure within the United States Senate and oversees issues such as crop protection, food security, environmental conservation. The committee also shapes national policies related to agriculture, nutrition, forestry, rural development and manages jurisdiction over agricultural commodities and related programs.

Through oversight hearings and studies on food programs—including those affecting schools—the committee influences federal legislation addressing nutrition and hunger across rural communities and maintains offices in the U.S. Capitol complex.
