The U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) announced that U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) arrested several individuals with criminal records in Minneapolis, Minnesota over the weekend as part of Operation Metro Surge. The operation has focused on removing noncitizens with convictions for serious crimes.
According to Secretary Kristi Noem, "We have arrested over 10,000 criminal illegal aliens who were killing Americans, hurting children and reigning terror in Minneapolis because Tim Walz and Jacob Frey refuse to protect their own people and instead protect criminals." She added, "In the last 6 weeks, our brave DHS law enforcement have arrested 3,000 criminal illegal aliens including vicious murderers, rapists, child pedophiles, and incredibly dangerous individuals. A huge victory for public safety."
Among those arrested were individuals from Laos, Somalia, Guatemala, Vietnam, Cuba, Mexico, and Ecuador. Their convictions included homicide, robbery, sexual assault against minors and adults, forgery, fraud, drug possession offenses, larceny, assault with weapons or aggravated assault with a gun. Several of the individuals had been issued final orders of removal by immigration authorities in previous years.
Operation Metro Surge is part of ongoing efforts by ICE to target people considered threats to public safety due to their criminal histories.
