Iesha Marks, 31, of Bowie, Maryland, and Daniel Bangura, 22, of Washington, D.C., have pleaded guilty in connection with the July 2023 shooting that resulted in the death of 46-year-old Donald Childs. The announcement was made by U.S. Attorney Jeanine Ferris Pirro.

Marks entered a guilty plea to second-degree murder while armed on January 13, 2026. She faces a prison sentence ranging from 13 to 25 years and will also be subject to supervised release after serving her term. Bangura pleaded guilty to obstruction of justice on the same day and is facing between four and eight years in prison, followed by supervised release. Both pleas are pending approval by the Court at sentencing.

Sentencing for Marks is scheduled before Judge Danya A. Dayson on June 12, 2026. Bangura’s sentencing is set for March 13, 2026.

According to evidence presented by the government, on July 30, 2023 at approximately 2:43 p.m., Bangura drove Marks to the area of Farragut Street NW in Washington, D.C. While passing through a busy intersection, Marks extended her arm out of the passenger window and fired several shots into Farragut Street. The gunfire struck and killed Mr. Childs as he stood on the sidewalk. Afterward, Bangura drove Marks away from the scene and into Pennsylvania where they disposed of the weapon used in the crime.

Marks was arrested in October 2023 and has remained in custody since then. Bangura has been held since his indictment in May 2025.

Interim Chief Jeffery W. Carroll of the Metropolitan Police Department joined U.S. Attorney Pirro in making this announcement.

The investigation was conducted by personnel from the Metropolitan Police Department and is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Yasmin Emrani.
