Illegal immigrant sentenced to five years for gun trafficking in Eastern District of Texas

An individual living illegally in the United States has been sentenced to five years in federal prison for firearms trafficking, according to an announcement from U.S. Attorney Jay R. Combs of the Eastern District of Texas.

Abigael Colin Saldana, 28, pleaded guilty to charges related to trafficking firearms and received a 60-month sentence from U.S. District Judge Amos L. Mazzant, III on January 21, 2026.

Court documents show that starting in 2021, Saldana, a Mexican national residing unlawfully in Royse City, participated in a conspiracy to move firearms from Texas into Mexico.

“This case is part of Operation Take Back America a nationwide initiative that marshals the full resources of the Department of Justice to repel the invasion of illegal immigration, achieve the total elimination of cartels and transnational criminal organizations (TCOs), and protect our communities from the perpetrators of violent crime,” said Combs.

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives worked with the Texas Department of Public Safety on this investigation. Assistant U.S. Attorney Matthew T. Johnson prosecuted the case.
