Ernst recognizes Z’s Pizza & Diner as Iowa small business of the week

Throughout this session of Congress, Senator Joni Ernst, Chair of the Senate Committee on Small Business and Entrepreneurship, is recognizing a small business in each of Iowa’s 99 counties.

“For more than five decades, Z’s Pizza has been serving up more than pizza, ensuring folks have a place to gather for good company and food,” said Chair Ernst. “Beyond great meals served family style, Z’s demonstrates its commitment to the community by hosting local events and lending a helping hand to those who need it most.”

Z’s Pizza & Diner began as Z’s Restaurant and Lounge in Waterloo in 1972. The restaurant was later reopened by Christopher and Joey Carney as Z’s Pizza & Diner in Waverly. As a family-owned business, it has maintained a focus on quality service for over 50 years. Known for its handmade pizzas—including an Iowa favorite, taco pizza—the establishment has become known for hospitality and made-from-scratch food. Its recipes have been passed down through generations.

The business also supports the local community by providing a gathering space and hosting events. Chair Ernst will continue her recognition program with the Small Business of the Week award across Iowa.

The Senate Small Business and Entrepreneurship Committee operates from Washington, D.C., contributing to national fiscal oversight through policy options on federal budget components and nonpartisan analysis via oversight of the Congressional Budget Office. The committee was established under the Congressional Budget and Impoundment Control Act of 1974, according to its official website.
