Rochester man pleads guilty to new federal child pornography charge

Brett Bedford, a 41-year-old resident of Rochester, New York, has pleaded guilty to possession of child pornography as a repeat offender. The announcement was made by U.S. Attorney Michael DiGiacomo. Bedford entered his plea before U.S. District Judge Charles J. Siragusa.

The charge carries a mandatory minimum sentence of 10 years in prison and could result in up to 20 years and a fine of $250,000.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Colleen M. McCarthy stated that Bedford was previously convicted in November 2020 in New York State Court for possessing obscene sexual performance by a child under the age of 16. He was sentenced at that time to six months in prison and ten years of probation.

On January 27, 2025, during a home inspection at Bedford’s residence in Penfield conducted by a Monroe County Probation Officer, an unauthorized cell phone and SIM cards were discovered. Examination of the phone revealed more than 450 images of child pornography, including material showing children engaged in sexual acts with adults and depictions of violence against children.

"The plea is the result of an investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, under the direction of Special Agent-in-Charge Philip Tejera."

Sentencing for Bedford is set for May 28, 2026 before Judge Siragusa.
