Corpus Christi man sentenced to 10 years for illegal firearm possession

A 38-year-old man from Corpus Christi, Ramsey Guerrero, has been sentenced to 10 years in federal prison for illegal possession of firearms. The announcement was made by U.S. Attorney Nicholas J. Ganjei.

Guerrero pleaded guilty on October 23, 2025. U.S. District Judge Nelva Gonzales Ramos ordered him to serve 120 months in federal prison, followed by three years of supervised release. During the sentencing hearing, the court reviewed incidents where Guerrero fled law enforcement during a traffic stop and resisted arrest while facing active warrants. Judge Ramos cited Guerrero’s extensive criminal record, including three prior state convictions for being a felon in possession of a firearm.

The case began on June 10, 2025, when authorities stopped Guerrero’s vehicle and detected the smell of marijuana. After refusing a search request, Guerrero fled the scene and crashed his car into a field before escaping on foot. Authorities found two pistols, a rifle, a shotgun, nearly 300 rounds of ammunition, body armor, methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia inside the vehicle.

Law enforcement later found Guerrero as a passenger in another parked car and attempted to arrest him based on outstanding warrants. He resisted again; officers then discovered another loaded firearm under his seat.

As a convicted felon, Guerrero is not allowed to possess firearms under federal law.

He remains in custody awaiting transfer to an as-yet-undetermined Federal Bureau of Prisons facility.

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives led the investigation with support from the U.S. Marshals Service and Texas Department of Public Safety. Assistant U.S. Attorney Ashley Martin prosecuted the case.
