Adam Muhammad, a 40-year-old resident of Washington, D.C., has pleaded guilty to charges stemming from two separate incidents involving domestic violence and unlawful firearm possession. The announcement was made by U.S. Attorney Jeanine Ferris Pirro.
Muhammad entered his plea on January 29, 2026, in the Superior Court of the District of Columbia. He admitted guilt to one count of assault with a dangerous weapon (knife) and one count of unlawful possession of a firearm due to a prior conviction. Sentencing is set for April 10, 2026.
According to government evidence, on September 16, 2025, Muhammad visited the home of his ex-romantic partner on 7th Street Northwest. During an argument, he grabbed the victim, who then reached for a kitchen knife out of fear. In the struggle that followed, she fell to the floor as Muhammad took control of the knife. He pinned her down and held her in a fetal position while pressing a finger into her collar bone and holding the knife blade to her neck. At that time, he said: “b***h, I’ll kill you, tell your baby dad you want to die.”
A week after this incident, police found Muhammad at an abandoned apartment complex carrying a loaded pistol. Due to his status as a convicted felon, he was not allowed to possess firearms. Officers discovered the weapon—a black and silver Smith and Wesson 915 9mm handgun with eight rounds in its magazine—during a protective pat down after noticing something metallic protruding from him.
Muhammad was arrested on September 23, 2025, and has remained in custody since then.
Interim Chief Jeffrey Carroll of the Metropolitan Police Department joined U.S. Attorney Pirro in making this announcement. The Metropolitan Police Department led the investigation into both cases.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Elias Feldman is prosecuting the assault case while Assistant U.S. Attorney Alexis Franks is handling the unlawful possession case.
