Guatemalan national sentenced to five years for illegal reentry after multiple deportations

A Guatemalan national has been sentenced to five years in prison for illegally returning to the United States after being deported, according to an announcement from U.S. Attorney Prim F. Escalona.

Lucas Lucas-De Lucas, 36, received a 60-month prison sentence from United States District Judge Liles C. Burke for illegal reentry of a previously deported alien.

Court documents show that Lucas has two prior felony convictions for illegal reentry. He was first removed from the United States in May 2012 and subsequently removed again in December 2019, February 2021, and April 2023.

"This case is part of Operation Take Back America, a nationwide initiative that marshals the full resources of the Department of Justice to repel the invasion of illegal immigration, achieve the total elimination of cartels and transnational criminal organizations (TCOs), and protect our communities from the perpetrators of violent crime," according to the statement.

The investigation was conducted by Homeland Security Investigations and the Albertville Police Department. Assistant U.S. Attorney Sara M. Judah prosecuted the case.
