A Bay Minette resident, Ladarrius Markeil Fields, has been sentenced to 10 years in federal prison for his involvement in a methamphetamine distribution conspiracy. According to court records, Fields, 30, pleaded guilty to participating in the distribution of methamphetamine between October and December 2024.
Authorities stated that on December 9, 2024, narcotics investigators received information about a planned bulk methamphetamine transaction at a truck stop in Whistler. When agents attempted to stop Fields’s vehicle near the location, he fled by reversing out of the parking lot and driving away. During the attempt to evade law enforcement, Fields threw a large bag containing nearly a pound of methamphetamine into a drainage ditch before stopping his vehicle. He was subsequently arrested and the drugs were recovered.
During an interview with investigators, Fields admitted purchasing a pound of methamphetamine from a supplier he had previously served prison time with. He also disclosed several prior convictions for possession and distribution of narcotics and said he had been released from Alabama state prison earlier in 2024.
Fields told agents that on December 8, 2024, he met his supplier at a gas station near Meaher Avenue in Prichard but received the wrong bag by mistake. He returned to the truck stop the next day to exchange it. Over approximately two months, Fields reported buying one to two pounds of methamphetamine about 15 times from this supplier. At one point during questioning, Fields said: “Y’all caught me bro, red handed.”
Senior U.S. District Judge William H. Steele imposed a sentence of 120 months’ imprisonment followed by five years of supervised release after incarceration. The supervision will include drug testing and treatment requirements. No fine was levied; however, Fields must pay $100 in special assessments.
U.S. Attorney Sean P. Costello for the Southern District of Alabama announced the sentencing.
The case was investigated by Homeland Security Investigations and the Mobile County Sheriff’s Office. Assistant U.S. Attorney Justin Roller prosecuted on behalf of the United States.
This prosecution is part of the Homeland Security Task Force (HSTF) initiative established under Executive Order 14159—Protecting the American People Against Invasion—which brings together multiple agencies including Homeland Security Investigations, FBI, DEA, ATF and is led locally by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for Southern District of Alabama.
