Pekin man sentenced to twelve years for methamphetamine distribution and firearm possession

A man from Pekin, Illinois, has been sentenced to 12 years in federal prison after pleading guilty to drug and firearm charges. Joshua Dunn, 33, received a sentence of 144 months for possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine and an additional 60 months for being a felon in possession of a firearm. The sentences will be served concurrently.

During the sentencing hearing before U.S. District Judge Jonathan E. Hawley, evidence showed that Dunn, who was prohibited from possessing firearms due to his criminal record, had methamphetamine, cocaine, and multiple firearms at his residence on South Second Street in Pekin. Authorities executed two search warrants at his home on January 30, 2025.

Law enforcement officials found approximately 16 grams of cocaine hydrochloride, several baggies containing about 170 grams of methamphetamine, drug trafficking paraphernalia such as scales and packaging material, and eleven firearms during the search.

Dunn had been in custody since his arrest following a federal indictment in February 2025. He pleaded guilty to the charges in November of the same year.

At the time he committed these offenses, Dunn was on supervised release for a previous conviction related to being a felon in possession of a firearm. His supervised release was revoked by the court and he received an additional sentence of two years imprisonment to be served concurrently with his current term.

The case was investigated by multiple agencies including the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) Springfield Residence Office, Pekin Police Department, Peoria Metropolitan Enforcement Group (P-MEG), Illinois State Police, and Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms and Explosives (ATF). Assistant U.S. Attorney Melissa P. Ortiz prosecuted the case.
