Tyrell West, a 30-year-old resident of Bowie, Maryland, has been indicted by a D.C. Superior Court grand jury on charges related to an alleged assault in November 2025. The announcement was made by U.S. Attorney Jeanine Ferris Pirro.
West faces one count each of strangulation, threats to do bodily harm, and simple assault. The indictment states that on November 26, 2025, West threatened his romantic partner with assault before punching her in the face and strangling her while their young child was present. The victim reportedly lost consciousness during the incident and later escaped to a neighbor’s apartment where she called 911.
Interim Chief Jeffery Carroll of the Metropolitan Police Department joined in announcing the indictment. The Metropolitan Police Department is conducting the investigation, and Assistant U.S. Attorney Olivis Hinerfeld is prosecuting the case.
Authorities emphasized that an indictment is only an allegation and that all defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in court.
