Beaumont man faces federal charge for firearm possession as convicted felon

A man from Beaumont, Texas has been charged with a federal firearms violation in the Eastern District of Texas, according to an announcement by U.S. Attorney Jay R. Combs.

David Earl Greer, Jr., 23, was indicted by a federal grand jury this week on charges of being a felon in possession of a firearm. If found guilty, Greer could face a minimum sentence of 15 years in federal prison.

The case falls under Operation Take Back America, which is a national effort by the Department of Justice aimed at combating illegal immigration, dismantling cartels and transnational criminal organizations, and addressing violent crime.

The investigation is being conducted by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives along with the Beaumont Police Department. Assistant U.S. Attorney Russell James is prosecuting the case.

“A federal indictment is not evidence of guilt. All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law,” the statement read.
