A man from Jasper, Texas has been indicted on a federal firearms charge in the Eastern District of Texas, according to an announcement by U.S. Attorney Jay R. Combs.
Kenneth Mitchell Woods, 28, was charged by a federal grand jury with being a felon in possession of a firearm. If convicted, Woods could face a minimum sentence of 15 years in federal prison.
The case is part of Operation Take Back America, an initiative led by the Department of Justice that aims to address illegal immigration, dismantle cartels and transnational criminal organizations, and protect communities from violent crime.
The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives and the Jasper Police Department are conducting the investigation. Assistant U.S. Attorney Russell James is prosecuting the case.
“A federal indictment is not evidence of guilt. All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law,” stated the press release.
