A Washington, D.C. man has been indicted by a grand jury on charges related to the robbery and assault of his former romantic partner in October 2025, according to an announcement from U.S. Attorney Jeanine F. Pirro.

The indictment, issued on February 4, 2026, includes charges of robbery and simple assault. The trial is scheduled for February 23, 2026, in the Superior Court of the District of Columbia before Judge Andrea Hertzfeld.

According to evidence presented by the government, the incident occurred on October 15, 2025, around 2:30 p.m. The defendant allegedly approached his former partner from behind on W Street NW and took her phone. A struggle followed as the victim attempted to retrieve her phone; during this altercation, she was struck in the face and pushed to the ground. After both individuals stood up again, the defendant reportedly took her purse as well. A bystander witnessed the event and called 911 while the defendant left with both items.

Interim Chief Jeffery Carroll of the Metropolitan Police Department joined U.S. Attorney Pirro in making the announcement.

The case is being investigated by both the Metropolitan Police Department and the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia.

Authorities noted that a criminal complaint is only an allegation and that all defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in court.
