Chattanooga man indicted for allegedly assaulting corrections officer in Alabama

A federal grand jury in Huntsville has indicted Thomas Elliott, 31, of Chattanooga, Tennessee, on a charge of assaulting a corrections officer. The announcement was made by U.S. Attorney Prim F. Escalona.

The indictment alleges that in November 2025, Elliott assaulted a corrections officer employed by the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office at the DeKalb County Detention Center.

The United States Marshals Service and the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office investigated the incident. Assistant United States Attorney Davis A. Barlow is prosecuting the case.

If convicted, Elliott faces up to 20 years in prison for the offense.

Authorities emphasized that an indictment is not evidence of guilt and that all defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
