Walter James Marshall, a 31-year-old resident of Fort Myers, has pleaded guilty to possessing a firearm and ammunition as a convicted felon. The announcement was made by U.S. Attorney Gregory W. Kehoe. Marshall could face up to 15 years in federal prison, though his sentencing date has not yet been scheduled.
Court documents state that on June 12, 2025, officers from the Fort Myers Police Department stopped Marshall for driving with a suspended license. During the vehicle search, police found a loaded SCCY pistol under the driver’s seat. DNA evidence collected from both the pistol and Marshall confirmed his connection to the weapon. Federal law prohibits individuals with felony convictions from owning or possessing firearms or ammunition.
The investigation was carried out by the Fort Myers Police Department along with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. Assistant United States Attorney Patrick L. Darcey is prosecuting the case.
According to U.S. Attorney Gregory W. Kehoe: "This case is part of Operation Take Back America a nationwide initiative that marshals the full resources of the Department of Justice to repel the invasion of illegal immigration, achieve the total elimination of cartels and transnational criminal organizations (TCOs), and protect our communities from the perpetrators of violent crime. Operation Take Back America streamlines efforts and resources from the Department’s Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETFs) and Project Safe Neighborhood (PSN)."
