A federal jury in New Haven has convicted Christopher Miles, 40, of Norwalk, for unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon. The announcement was made by David X. Sullivan, United States Attorney for the District of Connecticut.
Evidence presented at trial showed that on September 13, 2023, Miles left a loaded Glock 9mm pistol in the restroom of a Norwalk restaurant. A restaurant employee found the gun while cleaning and informed the manager, who then contacted Norwalk Police. Surveillance footage confirmed that Miles had entered the restroom shortly before the firearm was discovered and later returned to try to retrieve it. DNA analysis linked Miles to the weapon.
Miles has prior state convictions for assault in the first degree and narcotics offenses. Federal law prohibits individuals with felony convictions from possessing firearms or ammunition that have traveled in interstate or foreign commerce.
Miles could face up to 15 years in prison when sentenced. He has been held since his arrest on related state charges on November 21, 2023.
The investigation involved the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), Norwalk Police Department, and support from the Connecticut Department of Emergency Services and Public Protection’s Division of Scientific Services. Assistant U.S. Attorneys Kenneth Gresham and Rahul Kale are prosecuting the case.
