Mexican national sentenced to over four years for illegal reentry after violent felony convictions

An individual from Mexico, Pedro Garcia Lopez, 45, has been sentenced to 57 months in federal prison for illegally reentering the United States after being deported in 2008. The sentencing was announced by United States Attorney for the Northern District of Texas Ryan Raybould.

Garcia Lopez was indicted in June 2025 and pleaded guilty in September 2025 to the charge of illegal reentry. His sentence was handed down on February 2, 2026, by United States District Judge Sam Lindsay.

According to evidence presented during sentencing, Garcia Lopez’s criminal record began with a conviction for burglary of a habitation in 2008. He later received state convictions for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon in both 2018 and 2025. Each conviction resulted in a three-year prison sentence.

Judge Lindsay ruled that Garcia Lopez’s sentences at the state and federal levels will be served consecutively.

The investigation into Garcia Lopez’s case was conducted by Homeland Security Investigations. Special Assistant United States Attorney Marbel Leonel Munoz prosecuted the case.
