A man from the Pueblo of Zuni was sentenced to ten years in federal prison for sexual abuse, according to an announcement by Acting U.S. Attorney Ryan Ellison and Justin A. Garris, Special Agent in Charge of the FBI’s Albuquerque Field Office.
Court records state that Stanton Hannaweeke, 63, engaged in a nonconsensual sexual act with Jane Doe on August 19, 2023. Hannaweeke pleaded guilty to one count of sexual abuse.
Federal sentencing guidelines mean there is no parole available. After completing his prison term, Hannaweeke will be required to serve ten years of supervised release and register as a sex offender.
The case was investigated by the Gallup Resident Agency of the FBI’s Albuquerque Field Office with help from the Zuni Police Department. Assistant U.S. Attorney Jack Burkhead prosecuted the case as part of Project Safe Childhood, an initiative launched by the Department of Justice in May 2006 to address child sexual exploitation and abuse by coordinating federal, state, and local resources to locate offenders and assist victims. More information about Project Safe Childhood can be found at Justice.gov/PSC.
