The U.S. Supreme Court has ruled that former President Donald Trump exceeded his authority when he imposed reciprocal tariffs in April. The decision was welcomed by Senator Jeff Merkley (D-OR), Ranking Member of the Senate Budget Committee.

Earlier this year, the Congressional Budget Office informed Senator Merkley that maintaining these tariffs would likely slow economic growth and increase inflation. The tariffs were described as a regressive tax hike of $2.5 trillion affecting American families.
