Gretna man pleads guilty to firearms charge; sentencing set for May

A Gretna resident, Shayne Davis, age 36, pleaded guilty to being a felon in possession of a firearm. The plea was entered on February 3, 2026, before U.S. District Judge Darrel J. Papillion, according to United States Attorney David I. Courcelle.

Court documents state that in March 2025, federal and local task force officers were assigned to locate and arrest Davis, who was wanted for aggravated assault and felon in possession of a firearm charges. When officers and federal agents attempted to arrest him, Davis fled the scene and discarded a firearm in a neighbor’s yard during the pursuit. He was apprehended shortly after and found with a nine-millimeter magazine. Officers recovered the discarded Glock Model 26 Gen5 nine-millimeter pistol from the yard. A search warrant executed at Davis’s residence led to the discovery of an FIE Titan .25 caliber handgun.

Davis is scheduled for sentencing on May 12, 2026. He faces up to fifteen years in prison, a fine of up to $250,000, three years of supervised release, and a mandatory special assessment fee of $100.

This prosecution falls under Operation Take Back America. According to the Department of Justice initiative, Operation Take Back America aims to use all available resources to address illegal immigration issues and eliminate cartels as well as transnational criminal organizations while protecting communities from violent crime by coordinating efforts through programs such as the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETFs) and Project Safe Neighborhood (PSN).

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms investigated this case. Assistant United States Attorney Gregory M. Kennedy from the Violent Crime Unit prosecuted it.
