U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers at the Laredo Port of Entry intercepted a shipment of methamphetamine valued at nearly $6 million at the World Trade Bridge, according to an announcement from the agency.
The incident took place on February 13, when CBP officers directed a commercial truck carrying powder coating for additional inspection. Using both canine units and nonintrusive inspection technology, officers found 30 packages containing a total of 662.95 pounds of suspected methamphetamine. The estimated street value of the narcotics is $5,926,392.
Port Director Alberto Flores commented on the seizure: “The continued dedication of our frontline CBP officers to the border security mission and their utilization of our high-tech tools helped us zero-in on this significant methamphetamine load. Seizures like these reflect the seriousness of the drug threat we face on a daily basis and our firm resolve to keep our streets safe.”
Following standard procedure, CBP seized the drugs and Homeland Security Investigations special agents have begun an investigation into the case.
