MARK BROOKS, also known as “Baby Nu,” a 35-year-old resident of New Orleans, was sentenced to 41 months in federal prison for attempting to transfer obscene material to a minor. The sentence was handed down by United States District Judge Barry W. Ashe on February 12, 2026. In addition to the prison term, Brooks will serve three years of supervised release and must pay a $100 special assessment fee. The announcement came from United States Attorney David I. Courcelle.
Court documents show that on May 1, 2025, Brooks initiated contact with an FBI undercover agent who was posing online as a fifteen-year-old girl named “Ava.” After being told that “Ava” was only fifteen, Brooks engaged in sexually explicit text conversations and sent several obscene videos, including footage of himself masturbating at work and in various rooms of a residence. Brooks also discussed meeting “Ava” in person for sexual activity.
On May 13, 2025, Brooks suggested meeting at a restaurant near his home before proceeding to his residence for sexual contact. When “Ava” agreed to the plan, law enforcement arrested Brooks as he walked from his home toward the restaurant.
This prosecution is part of Project Safe Childhood, an initiative started by the Department of Justice in May 2006 to address child sexual exploitation and abuse nationwide. The program brings together federal, state, and local resources to locate and prosecute individuals who exploit children online and to help rescue victims. United States Attorney Courcelle commended the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Louisiana State Police for their roles in investigating this case. Assistant United States Attorney Jordan Ginsberg led the prosecution.
