Clinton J. Johnson U.S. Attorney | U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Oklahoma
A Mexican citizen, Estevan Barron-Ruiz, 49, was sentenced to eight months in prison and one year of supervised release for unlawfully reentering the United States after being previously removed. The sentence was issued by U.S. District Judge John D. Russell, according to an announcement from U.S. Attorney Clint Johnson.
Barron-Ruiz was arrested in August 2025 and later convicted in state court on charges including aggravated driving under the influence of alcohol, driving with a suspended license, and making an unsafe lane change. During his booking into jail, authorities determined that he was not legally present in the country. Court records indicate that Barron-Ruiz had been removed from the United States in November 2014 and had not received permission from the Secretary of Homeland Security to return.
Additionally, court documents reveal that Barron-Ruiz had previously pleaded guilty to another aggravated DUI charge in 2013.
Barron-Ruiz will stay in custody until he is transferred to the U.S. Bureau of Prisons. He has agreed to be removed from the United States and will cooperate with removal proceedings following his sentence.
The case was investigated by Homeland Security Investigations and prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Augustus Forster.
