Former Home Depot worker receives over three-year sentence for $4 million theft

Felecia Ingram, a former employee of The Home Depot, has been sentenced to more than three years in federal prison after stealing over $4 million in gift cards from the company. According to prosecutors, Ingram exploited her role as a gift card sales associate between March 2020 and July 2021 to steal approximately 8,325 physical gift cards from the company's Store Support Center. She used her network access credentials to activate the stolen cards by creating false orders that appeared legitimate and later deleted those records to hide her actions.

“While employed at The Home Depot, the defendant abused the trust placed in her and stole a staggering $4 million from the company,” said U.S. Attorney Theodore S. Hertzberg. “She engaged in a calculated scheme that involved entering false gift card orders, which she later deleted to cover her tracks. She has now been sentenced to federal prison to pay for her deceit.”

“Exploiting her position for personal gain, this criminal thought she could use her knowledge of her employer’s business practices to conceal a multi-million-dollar fraud scheme,” said Robert Donovan, Acting Special Agent in Charge of the United States Secret Service Atlanta Field Office. “Thanks to the tireless work of our agents, cooperation from the Home Depot, and the skill of the prosecutors at the U.S. Attorney’s Office, she will spend the next three years in prison paying for her crimes.”

Ingram sold the stolen gift cards on the black market and reportedly used much of the money on gambling activities. The theft was uncovered when The Home Depot's gift card team noticed discrepancies in ledger balances.

On May 1, 2025, Ingram pleaded guilty to access device fraud. She was sentenced by Senior U.S. District Judge Thomas W. Thrash, Jr., receiving three years and one month in prison followed by three years of supervised release and an order to pay restitution totaling nearly $3.95 million.

The case was investigated by the United States Secret Service with significant assistance from The Home Depot. Assistant U.S. Attorney Stephen H. McClain prosecuted.
