Canton man convicted by jury for perjury related to Madison Timber Properties case

A federal jury in Jackson, Mississippi, has found William “Bill” Byrd McHenry, Jr., of Canton guilty of perjury for making false statements during a court proceeding.

Court records show that on November 18, 2021, McHenry provided untruthful testimony during a judgment debtor examination. The purpose of the examination was to identify assets he held that could help satisfy a $3,473,320 judgment against him. This judgment was intended to partially reimburse investors who suffered losses in the Madison Timber Properties Ponzi scheme. The scheme spanned several states and resulted in losses exceeding one hundred million dollars for hundreds of victims over several years.

During the examination, which took place after McHenry had filed for personal bankruptcy following the large judgment against him, he was questioned about specific assets and whether he had sold any during his bankruptcy proceedings. According to evidence presented at trial, McHenry falsely denied having sold such assets.

McHenry’s sentencing is set for May 28, 2026. A federal district court judge will determine his sentence after reviewing the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and other relevant factors.

U.S. Attorney J.E. Baxter Kruger of the Southern District of Mississippi and Special Agent in Charge Robert A. Eikhoff announced the conviction.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation is handling the investigation.

Assistant U.S. Attorneys Samuel Goff and Matt Allen are prosecuting the case.
