Education and Workforce Committee Chairman Tim Walberg (R-MI) issued a statement following the release of the Department of Labor’s February jobs report. He acknowledged that while strikes and union activity caused temporary job losses in some sectors, overall employment levels have remained stable across much of the United States.

“Even as strikes and union-organized activity led to temporary job loss in a few industries, employment remains steady throughout much of the American economy. The evidence speaks for itself: over the past year, Republicans and the Trump administration have helped more workers thrive. We remain steadfast in our efforts to cut red tape, lower costs, and put workers and job creators first,” Walberg said.

The House Education and Workforce Committee oversees federal programs related to education, labor, health, and workforce development, according to its official website. The committee also shapes policy on student loans and worker protections (source). As part of its legislative role, it has jurisdiction over matters concerning both education and labor (source).
